All outstanding certificates were terminated on 1 January 1962. From that date, portable extinguishers have been given approvals based on UL listings. All fire extinguishers manufactured while Certificates of Approval were in effect may be used, provided they are in serviceable condition. However, the use of vaporizing liquid fire extinguishers manufactured after 1 January 1962 is prohibited.
